I tell you, no matter how much I venture out into other areas in the industry, the theater always brings me back to my roots, whether it be on or off the stage! An exciting new venture has me partnering with an established, wildly popular, theater group out of St. Louis, MO: JPEK CreativeWorks, LLC. JPEK will begin touring their urban musical stage production, REAL LIFE, throughout the US in late 2012.

This partnership finds Mighty Moore Entertainment assisting with the show set to go up in the Albuquerque, NM area in the Spring of 2013. Thanks to Joel P.E. King (who is compared to Tyler Perry and even the legendary, August Wilson) for this opportunity. ;)... Much of the casting will be done locally, so be on the look out for casting call notices New Mexicans! In addition, sponsorship information will be going out in the next few weeks for this production, as well as my annual Charity Event in December, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, 12/15/12.

Speaking of my annual Charity Event, I recently accepted a position as Board Member for Asthma Allies. (The organization we partnered with last year.) As a result, I've decided to continue partnering with AA indefinitely for my parties each year. Many don’t know that I’ve suffered from asthma since birth, my husband was diagnosed as a teenager, and one of my daughters has asthma. So, they are a perfect fit for my philanthropist efforts in New Mexico!

What else have I been up to?

- Getting ready for my return to Los Angeles!
- Took my girls to their first professional photo shoot about a week ago. We had a few stumbling blocks, but everything worked itself out. I’ll be sure to post the pics we choose.
- This past Sunday, I was an invited special guest at the The Oscar Night® America Party at the Kimo Theatre in Albuquerque. It was an awesome party that the mayor and city of Albuquerque threw. Red carpet, food, drinks, and tons of swag. First rate! I’ll definitely go again next year if I’m in town. See pics below, a few of which were taken by photographer Cheo Tapia.

1st Day of 2012, and I wanted to make sure I started the year out right! :)...

- Hopefully you’ve had the opportunity to watch the 3 Asthma Allies PSA’s I posted last month. Some pics from the shoot are below. This had to be one of the COLDEST shoots I’ve ever, ever been a part of! Lol. The end result was well worth it though, and I can’t wait to announce the airdate(s) for the spots.
- I also hope you had time to read the press release about my 2nd Annual Red Carpet Charity Event that I posted last month as well. It too was a success! Thank everyone so much for their continued encouragement and support. Photos and party footage coming soon!
- One of my LAUP VO spots is running again. It's always pretty sweet when an old project resurfaces. :)...
- Got word that the film, GOATS, that I worked on in the Spring of 2011, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month! Woo hoo!
- Yes, the rumors are true. The plan is to return to Los Angeles soon.

I flew back to Los Angeles for this audition, so I was bummed that I never heard anything. It went EXTREMELY well, but oh well. What can you do?...

I was also bummed to recently hear that BREAKING BAD was going to finish up with one last season. Now that I've had the opportunity to work on IN PLAIN SIGHT, THIS show is starting to remind me of my experiences with THE SHIELD. Dang! Lol.

In other news, I have a lot in the works right now. I'm in the process of ushering out the old and bringing in the new. Several great projects on the horizon, and I'm sooooo excited! Trying not to share until each of them are finalized though.

Now that Summer's (almost) over...

Film Audition - ODD BRODSKY - 7/28/11

It's been a slooowww summer, but I've been trying my best to stay busy outside of my day job. What are actors taught? Do AT LEAST one thing per day to further your acting career? Well, in 2011, I've been giving it the old college try.

- Recently, I've been working with my manager to figure out the best time for me to make a trip to Los Angeles this coming Fall.
- I started planning my 2nd Annual Birthday Bash super early this year. Hoping to meet with a venue and a new charity later this week. SAVE THE DATE! The party is scheduled for Saturday, December 17th, 2011.
- If you haven't noticed, I've also started writing articles for Yahoo!, which I'm super excited about! It feels good to share some of the things I've learned in the industry over the years. If you have a topic you'd like for me to cover, please let me know.

I was super excited about the audition I had last week. It was my first time (ever) reading for a LEAD Role in a Feature Film. Although I haven't heard back, I think I gave my best interpretation of the character. So, we'll see...

Even when things get sluggish, you just gotta keep it movin!

Okay, so here is an “I MET” that I promised I’d spill waaayyy back in January...

It’s hard for me to recall ALL the details of this story because it was quite some time ago, but what I do remember is that it wasn’t long after I’d moved to Los Angeles. It was late evening. I was hungry. Both my roommates had plans. So, I decided on a whim, to treat myself to dinner.

It was a little American Bistro (or French, I can’t recall), not too far from where I was living at the time, just off Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. I’d ordered my entree and was watching passersby on the rooftop patio when a group of older black women settled in at a huge dining table right next to me. It seemed to be some kind of social networking or business presentation type of thing.

Anyway, after a while, the women seemed to notice that I was eating alone, so they made a huge deal about me joining them for the rest of the evening. I finally obliged...

I remember lots of good food, drinks, laughter, and surprise on my part that I was having fun with this group of elderly strangers. (I was early 20's at the time, so I thought every one over 35 was elderly. Lol.)

For some reason, the woman right next to me stood out. She was familiar, beautiful, elegant, but I couldn’t place her. I caught myself studying her face several times during the course of the evening. Why did I know her?

Things ended, I thanked them, hugs and numbers exchanged, and I had no further thought about it, until a couple of days later, it suddenly dawned on me...

NICHELLE NICHOLS!! The Star Trek actress...

I had just hung out with this legendary woman and all her friends and I didn’t even know who she was. I hadn’t made it count!

- I didn’t get an autograph.
- I didn’t get a picture.
- And most importantly, I didn’t get to ask for advice.

DOH! You better believe that from that moment on, I knew who was who in Hollywood. I still kick myself to this day when I think about that night. Lol.

- Lastly, on 5/7, my family and I attended Bob Nuchow's LEGACY ART ALBUQUERQUE meet and greet at the Frontier restaurant where I had the opportunity to meet Lou Diamond Phillips and Adam Beach. (See pics below taken by photographer Cheo Tapia.)

"Nursing" a Callback...

Feature Film - ODD THOMAS - 3/31/11 (Taya-Morgan, Kenyah, and I)

Less than a week after I shot my GOATS scene, production wrapped, and my husband and I headed down to Seasons in old town Albuquerque to hobnob with cast and crew at the wrap party. It was fun! (See pics below.) Now, I'm anxiously awaiting information about the premiere this coming Fall. It would be my first premiere for a project that I'm a part of, so hopefully I'll get an invite. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm always anxiously waiting for something, huh? Lol...

As of today, I'm working on:

- Getting my most recent footage for a new demo reel.
- Toying with the idea of getting new photos done. Again!...
- Still trying to get this theater thing going, but now I have a new hurdle. The facility that I wanted to use has come under scrutiny by governor Susana Martinez. It looks like she has shifted her attention from damaging the NM film industry to damaging NM theater. See: http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/politics/protesters-oppose-martinez. But, since I refuse to head down a path of negativity today, I'll be promptly moving on...

A couple of weeks ago, my girls and I auditioned for the same feature film. They auditioned for the roles of two young orphaned sisters, and I auditioned for the role of a nurse. Yep, another nurse. :)... Still waiting to hear if a callback is in any of our near futures, but we had fun with it.

Film at 11...

Let me be the first to say that director Christopher Neil is one of the nicest directors I've ever worked with! On Sunday, 3/20, I was called to the set of the feature film GOATS to shoot my scene with Alan Ruck, Graham Phillips, and Ronnie Rubalcaba. (See pics below.) Although many of us were suffering from some form of allergy, a fun time was had by all. Alan is hilarious, and considering the rest of the cast, I think this movie is going to do really, really well! I'll be sure to share more information as I get it.

Gotten word that the animated short (THE DEPRESSION OF DETECTIVE DOWNS 2), that I recorded some time back, will be screening next month. Here is a link to one of the songs on the soundtrack. Hopefully I'll get to see the film and share it soon.

We're currently exploring the option of putting QVW on the internet. Details coming soon!

Going with my church's youth drama group to AZ for a competition next month has been cancelled. Bummed! -- But we've decided that we're going to perform it at church. The kids have worked so hard, and we don't want to let all that talent and hours of rehearsal go to waste! I'll be stepping in and playing a role too. Should be fun.

Spring is upon us, which means Pilot Season will soon be over. I was hoping to have an opportunity to fly back to Los Angeles for a bit, but that's looking very unlikely. My manager and I have agreed that I should hold off on coming to L.A. until I'm needed there. In the meantime, I'll be checking my voicemail and email for NM auditions. There are a lot of projects coming over the horizon! :)...

Plus size modeling, you ask? Never heard back from the folks I submitted to. Not sure my heart would've been in it anyways. So, promptly moving on...

What I AM going to do is revive the theater project I wanted to produce this year. I really like this producing/publicity stuff. I'm thinking maybe August or September. I gotta check the theater and talent availability though. I also need to get started on my birthday event. Although it all came together last year, it was tough pulling those sponsors together for my party at the last minute. Either everyone had already run out of sponsorship money/goods for the year or I was competing with holiday stuff. I think I might submit both events as a package deal and see what I can come up with. Lots to do. Lots to do. No time for rest! :)...

Lastly, and I just wanted to share this real quickly: Growing up, my parents used to take my siblings and I to see this variety show called Tops in Blue. I feel as if these shows are truly a part of why I ended up on stage at such a young age. I was excited to have been able to share this experience with my little ones last week. TV Audition/Callback – BREAKING BAD – 1/31/11

Today I was up bright and early, driving out to Santa Fe to film a scene in a short I was asked to be a part of. We were outside, so we almost froze to death, but it was great fun! (See pics below with fellow castmates Sandi Kay and James Douglas. Castmates Allan and Dia Gaitirira and director Belle Allen are not pictured.) The short, called NOT ONBOARD is one of two bookings I’ve garnered since the beginning of the year. The other is the feature film with David Duchovny I mentioned in my last post. Yes, I booked it. Yippee! I’m set to shoot that film in early March. :)…

All in all, 2011 has started out on a good note. The only disappointment I’ve had thus far is that once again I’ve had to push back an event I wanted to produce this Spring. I’ve just been too busy to get the ball rolling on it. Maybe I’ll do it sometime this Summer. We’ll see.

So, the BREAKING BAD audition I had at the end of January was quite interesting. Not only was I asked to go in on the wrong day to audition for the wrong part, the director was a bit eccentric, and it also kinda screwed things up with my day job. Oh well, I’m determined to work on that show in some capacity this season. I’m speaking it into existence right now! Lol. Actually, if you recall, I booked it back in 2009, but the part was ultimately written out.

This April is going to bring a new experience for me. I think I might have mentioned once or twice that I’ve been working with a youth drama group at my church since last Fall. Well, in April we will have a chance to showcase what we’ve been working on as part of a competition in Arizona. I'm much more nervous about this than I thought I’d be, but I’m sure my kids will do well! :D...

Film Audition – GOATS – 1/14/11

I was told by the CD that I "nailed it." This film stars David Duchovny. Funny thing is, less than an hour after the audition, I'm standing next to a woman whose phone rings, and she has an X-FILES ringtone. Coincidence?!? I hope not! Callbacks are next week. Crossing my fingers and toes. :D...

Also last week:

- Was offered a part in a short film, which I was very honored by. More info to come soon.
- Had a VERY PRODUCTIVE conversation with my manager, laying the groundwork for what we hope to be a stellar 2011!
- Toured the AAPAC in hopes of doing some things there this year. What a beautiful facility!
- And, last but not least, the Film and Fashion Industry Night that I was the special guest for on 1/12/11 was a lot of fun! Special thanks to Stephen Cuomo for asking me to come out. (See pics below, first three taken by photographer Michael P. D'Arco.)

Print Audition - MARRIOTT - 12/1/10 (Taya-Morgan and Kenyah)

Wow. Fortunately, I’m able to say that I wrapped up 2010 on a high note. My Red Carpet Birthday Bash turned out better than I could have ever hoped for (see pics here taken by Jessica Quinn of Visiones Photography: http://www.visiones.smugmug.com/), the holidays went wonderfully well, and I have a lot already planned for 2011! Some exciting key points:

The AVENGERS will be shooting in New Mexico Spring 2011. All I need is an audition, I tell ya! Lol.
Several Episodics and a few Features (that were pushed from last year) will start filming in the next several weeks.
I recently did an interview for an online magazine. Hope to be able to share a link soon.
I had another person encourage me to get into plus size modeling. So, I submitted to an agency last week. We'll see what happens.
I’ll be touring theater facilities (starting this week) for an event I’m planning for Spring 2011.

Tribute to Bobby Tillman...

When I first heard the story of Bobby Tillman, the young boy who was brutally killed over the weekend in Atlanta, GA, my heart went out to him and his family. I couldn’t imagine how difficult the whole situation had to have been for them. I read article after article and studied his pictures, wondering what his future could have been had not his life been cut so short, all the while thinking: “This kid looks familiar to me.”

My heartbreak turned to anger as I then focused my attention on the other kids involved in the story. Where is this type of ignorance coming from? What are these kids witnessing in their own homes? Listening to on their Ipods? Being influenced to do by their peers? And, how can I protect MY kids from it?

Cut to 11:55am today. I called my husband during my lunch break, and he tells me to brace myself for some bad news.

“We KNOW Bobby,” he says.

“WHAT?!? Don’t tell me that,” I say.

A flood of devastation washes over me as I think back to the only Bobby I know. Quickly, I realize that the Bobby Tillman I had been reading about for the last couple of days had been my neighbor for two years in California; before his mother moved him and his sister to Atlanta, GA for a fresh start.

Atlanta Bobby Tillman is THE SAME little Bobby my firstborn (Taya-Morgan) had a crush on, would talk about nonstop and would watch shoot hoops from our apartment patio.

Atlanta Bobby Tillman is THE SAME little Bobby that would help me carry my groceries up 2 flights of stairs when I was pregnant (with Kenyah) and he saw me struggling.

Atlanta Bobby Tillman is THE SAME little Bobby that would offer to take our trash down to the dumpster for us.

I was absolutely devastated, and I'm sure I WILL BE devastated for some time to come. Bobby was a sweet kid, and after they moved, my husband and I would often wonder how him and his family were doing out in Atlanta. Well, I guess now we know.

We shed tears for Bobby and his family today, crying with others around the nation. And, I know that Bobby will be included in our nightly family prayer for some time to come.

Lord, please stop these senseless killings.

Lord, please be with Bobby and his family.

We love you Bobby. RIP.

TV Audition – OUTLAW – 09/29/10

On 10/8, the hubby and I attended the 1st Annual Red Carpet Celebration of Latinos in Media. The night began with a super packed VIP Reception at the Hard Rock Casino & Resort Hotel. From there, all VIP’s were taken (by stretched limo) to the Kiva Auditorium where the award ceremony took place. On the way inside, we struck a few poses for the photogs on the red carpet and in front of the step and repeat they had setup. (It was my hubby’s first time on the red carpet, so I think he was a bit nervous. Shhh, don’t tell him I said that though. :)... He did a good job.)

Once inside, the escort that was assigned to us took us to the VIP/Green Room backstage where we rubbed elbows with some of the other VIP guests over dinner. Elizabeth Peña, Bokeem Woodbine (who I reminded we’d met a few times before in the late 90’s), Steven Quezada, and Amado Peña, to name a few. Elizabeth had our table laughing with her stories. She’s a very sweet lady. The organizers did a great job with the show! When it ended, we had quite an adventure getting back to the hotel though. So, once we made it back, we only lasted about 10 minutes at the Afterparty before calling it a night. I’m excited to see what they put together for 2011.

In other news, I’ve spent the last few weeks working hard at my day job and prepping for a MME related breakfast meeting I have early next week. I’ll be pitching my producing venture from earlier this year to another organization. Hopefully I can get it off the ground this time. I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

I’m also thinking about planning a birthday party for myself in mid-December. Hmmm, still undecided about that one, we’ll see...:)...

This Dream vs. My Reality...

Yes, it's true, now that I'm back at a fulltime day job, I often daydream about the days in which I had the freedom to spend quality time with my kids, be creative at will, workout on the regular, and network with other creative people; but, the reality of the matter is, which I don't think a lot of people realize, is that even though you've seen me, or any other actor for that matter, on television or the big screen doesn't mean we're set for life. Nope, not by any means! Lol. We still have to bust our behinds on the daily just like everyone else, which in most cases, is a REALLY tricky balancing act. That fact makes me so grateful for folks like Ken Osmond aka Eddie Haskell. This week, his actions, have helped soooo many of us actors. I applaud him. Read more here.

A few weeks ago (8/24 and 8/25), I drove myself up to the beautiful city of Los Alamos, NM to shoot the LANL industrial I booked earlier this summer. My calltime was 8am on both days, which meant I had to be ready and out the door by 6am each day. What a wonderful treat it was to have that time to chat with family on the East Coast, watch the sun rise, and soak up the beautiful scenery around me. It was very zen-like. Since things are quite top secret at LANL, I'm not sure if I'll get to see copy of the footage, yet alone share it with the world, but here is a photo I was allowed to take with some fellow actors and LANL employees. We had a lot of fun! :)...

In other news:

The book agent I'd been emailing back and forth passed on my Children's Book Series. (Yes, I'm writing too. Lol.) It's okay though. Can anyone say self publish?!? One day soon, hopefully.
In Germany, FRIENDSHIP! was realeased on DVD on 9/9. It should be out here in the U.S. around Christmas, with screenings slated in Los Angeles and New Mexico between now and then. I'll be sure to post more information about the screenings when I get it.

Midsummer Wrap-Up...

My head seems to be spinning these days. It’s nice to have a lot going on, but sometimes, things can get just a tad overwhelming! Lol. Last week I started a new day job. I’m excited about it of course, because I’ve been looking for such a long time, but to pile a 40 hour work week on top of everything else I’m doing: WHEW! We’re all adjusting though. So far, so good.

I’ve still been auditioning, and last month I booked an Industrial for LANL! Yippee! I’ll be going up to Los Alamos later this month to shoot it.

A few other things I’ve had going on since last I wrote:

Last week, I sent the manuscripts for my children’s book series to an interested Literary Agent.
Last month, I worked (for the first time) as a Production Assistant on a 48 Film Project called LEATHER KITTENS GONE BAD. It was a lot of fun. No pressure. I haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, but I hear it turned out really well! (See on set photos below.)
I’ve been reading lots of scripts for new projects I might be involved with somehow. Still feeling my way around on those.
Feeling really good about the Film Audition I had the other day! Unfortunately for me, a great deal of the last several roles I’ve auditioned for, have seen ethnicity changes. Hopefully that doesn’t happen with this project!

JEREMIAH, the short I had on deck to shoot in Los Angeles later this month, had to be pushed again. Hopefully we’ll get it in the can sometime this winter.

That's about it, and unless something else comes up, right now, I’m looking at a weekend trip in October, as my next trip to Los Angeles.

Summer Summer Summertime...

When most of us think of summertime, it's filled with 90 degree weather, hammocks, large glasses of iced tea or lemonade, and too many BBQ invitations to count. If that’s the case, why am I feeling so darned overwhelmed and stressed lately?!? Could it be that I have TOO many great and wonderful things going on at once?

You can ask my parents, I’ve always been one for filling my plate to the brim, and then running around like a crazy woman trying to get things done and on time. Lol.

Last week I returned to ABQ from a 2 ½ week trip to Los Angeles with the family. Much of the trip was leisure, but yes, at least 1/3 of it was business. One of the first things I did while there was meet up with the women behind the short film JEREMIAH. (JEREMIAH is the film I'm currently Associate Producing.) Wonderful progress has been made with this project, and we’re now planning to shoot later this summer.

While in Los Angeles, I was also able to attend several events:

Currently, I'm gearing up for a day job interview later this week, setting up meetings with some NM filmmakers, reading scripts, and working on a Query Letter to submit to a publisher in NYC for my book series, which is about 90% completed! Yippee! I’m also dancing around the idea of returning to school (again) this coming Fall, so that I can FINALLY get this degree thing on lock. We’ll see though.

So, I guess it’s not so bad to stay super busy. After all, you know what they say about idle hands...

This year has brought with it many wonderful surprises and blessings for me and my family! If you haven’t already heard, I’m excited to report that I booked IN PLAIN SIGHT the last time I went in for it. I shot it on 04/01/10 and had a blast! My call time for the shoot was late in the day, so we ended up shooting until almost 3 o’clock in the morning. No problem though, I don’t mind rolling with the punches when I’m on set, I’m just happy to be there. :)

The Director telling me that he saw my work on GREY’S ANATOMY, and it's one of the reasons he wanted me for the job. Very cool!
Having one of the Producers tell me that I looked familiar to him. Turns out he produces for GREY’S ANATOMY as well, and knows me from that set.
Having the opportunity to work with another great bunch of folks, which included Mary McCormack, Steven Weber, and Alexandra Lydon. All CLASS ACT actors, by the way. :)
Hearing encouraging rumors that my character might return, and soon. Praying hard for this to happen!
And, last but certainly not least, a fully stocked sushi bar, in which the sushi was prepared fresh right in front of us! Yes, it’s the little things that make me happy. Lol.

In other news, still making progress with the short film (JEREMIAH) I signed up to do at the beginning of the year. Our shoot dates have been pushed back to Summer 2010, but it looks like we recently made our budget, so we’re all amped about that.

Another exciting thing that has happened recently is that Taya-Morgan had the opportunity to audition for a LEAD Role in a Feature Film. Wow! That was certainly an unexpected blessing. (Truth be known, I’VE never had an audition for a role that big, but I didn’t dare tell her that. Lol.) My little one’s are used to doing print work, but not much on camera stuff, so she really got first hand knowledge on what this “acting stuff” is all about. What made me most proud is that although she felt like she wanted to give up a couple of times, she hung in there, put in the work and got it done. Not bad for a 7.5 year old. She had to memorize 4 pages of dialogue and tape the audition repeatedly for almost two hours. After it was all said and done, she tells me, “Mom, I didn’t realize acting was this hard!” She’s very excited about it, and I know she’d love to do the part, if called upon.

I also had big audition this month! I had the opportunity to audition for a CONTRACT Role on the THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. My first soap audition. I still haven’t heard anything regarding either of these projects , but I’m hopeful and prayerful that if it’s the Lord’s will we’ll book one, the other, or both!

So, that’s it for now. In a few minutes, I’ll be prepping for a callback that I have later today, but I wanted to sit down to put the finishing touches on this blog entry that I’ve been trying to get done for the last few days.

“You just gotta TRY, TRY, TRY!”...

…is what my 3 yr old said to me yesterday when I tried to explain to her the woes of being an actor. I found out last night that I didn’t get that recurring role on IN PLAIN SIGHT. Apparently it was down to me and one other person, and it went to the other person. *SIGH.* This show is starting to remind me of my experiences with THE SHIELD. Lol. If you’re new to my blog, I’ll fill you in. Over the years, I went in on THE SHIELD at least a dozen times and always came thisclose to booking it. In the end I never had an opportunity to work on it before it was cancelled, and that's always stuck with me. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen with IN PLAIN SIGHT.

As an actor, YES, it is extremely difficult to devote yourself to role after role only to have it go to someone else. YES, you often feel like giving up and getting a “real job” sometimes. YES, you worry if it’s all really worth it in the end, ESPECIALLY when you have a family. BUT, after you take a moment to recall how sweet it is to hear your agent say: “You booked it.” Or you think back to how excited and proud you were the first time you watched yourself on TV, saw yourself on the big screen, or heard yourself on the radio, something flickers in your heart. A spark of determination perhaps? Will power? Drive? Or maybe just plain idiocy?!? Lol. I don’t know. Fact is, you may never really feel as if you’ve “made it” in this business, but for many of us, even with the valleys that far outweigh the peaks, the journey (the pure love of pursing this craft) means so much more than the destination. So, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and “TRY, TRY, TRY.”

On a another note, although I love the slower pace of NM for practical reasons, I must admit that I do miss the excitement of everyday life in Los Angeles. Hitting up a red carpet is definitely a thing of the past for now, BUT things have been going pretty great for me in 2010 thus far, so I definitely can't complain. I’ve had some really good auditions and I’ve also managed to attend a couple of events:

In January, a friend and I made our way over to a SAG Awards Screening Party at the Uptown Bar. (See pic above. Courtesy John Maio.) It was really nice. Saw a couple of familiar faces and made a couple of new friends.

In February, I went to the February Art of Fashion Show at the QBar. Had a lot of fun there as well. Ran into some old friends, and was even asked to walk in a fashion show for one of the designers this summer. Yikes! Modeling is not my thing, but I’m not opposed to giving it a try. Happy that I finally got back in the gym today! Lol.

The pièce de résistance of 2010 thus far was the much anticipated QVW Screening that took place at the end of January. In a nutshell, it was awesome! The finished product was awesome, the feedback from the crowd was awesome, and I felt awesome! As a producer, I couldn’t have been prouder. (See pics from the Screening at the bottom of this post. In other news, the producing venture I mentioned earlier this year has been put on hold. The organization I was hoping to work with decided against the idea, so I’m back at the drawing board. No worries though, I plan to pick it back up AFTER I’m done with the next short I’ve signed on for. Yes, I’ve signed on for another short film called JEREMIAH, this time as Associate Producer. The film, which was written and co-produced by emerging talent, April Mabry, "recounts the events leading up to a bullied teen committing bullycide (a suicide caused by the effects of bullying) in flashbacks and explores the aftermath of his death in interviews with his mother, classmates, and bullies." It’s a very deep film and I’m so excited to be a part of it. I will also have an acting role in it.

On Monday I had some new shots taken with Joy Silva of J. Silva Photography. I'm so excited! Here is one of the teaser pics. I think they came out wonderfully. Can you believe she's just getting into headshot photography?! I'm her guinea pig. :) My makeup was done by local makeup artist Elizabeth Bell. She did an exceptional job too. Local actors in the ABQ area, don't sleep on these two! I have a feeling that they are going to be very hot commodities really soon. I hope to get the disk over the weekend and make a few selections sometime next week.

Last, and certainly not least, I am very happy to say that I signed with a new manager in January. I’m very hopeful about the possibilities of this working relationship and my intention is to travel back to Los Angeles for a couple of weeks before Pilot Season 2010 is over so that she can work her magic. :D I have to wait until I hear back from the Feature Film audition I had last week before making my travel arrangements though. So, we'll see.

I'm feeling extremely blessed that things are continuing to go well for me. Please, please, please keep me in your prayers, and I'll be sure to keep you all in mine!

Ringing in the New Decade...

I’ll start by saying: “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” I hope that you all enjoyed the Holiday Season. I had a wonderful time. I was fortunate enough to spend it with friends and family out at my dad’s farm. YES, the kids got more than they needed under the Christmas Tree. YES, I gained a couple of pounds. And, YES, I’m planning on getting back in the gym ASAP. Same as last year. Lol.

Besides the holiday rush, I’ve been busy, very busy working. Among other things I've been planning the QVW Screening, managing Mass Appeal and writing a proposal for a new producing venture I’d like to start in 2010.

A few of my highlights for the last couple of months include:

In late October, when I flew back to Los Angeles for the Breast Cancer Luncheon I was the Mistress of Ceremony for, I also attended the 4th Annual Love Your Body Day Launch Party in Hollywood. Here is footage from that party: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC8LKzxxSL8.

In November I attended a comedy show starring Steven Michael Quezada, which most of the BREAKING BAD cast and crew attended. The show was hilarious, and it was fun meeting and hanging out with everyone. That night Bryan Cranston also gave me a bit of acting advice. INTERESTING TIDBIT: The following week, just before Thanksgiving, I ran into Bryan at LAX, and he remembered meeting me the week before. We chatted for a couple of minutes. Really nice guy. ;)…

In December I attended a screening of an indie film called A LONELY PLACE FOR DYING. The film was pretty good and definitely inspired me to continue in my filmmaking endeavors. I also got to meet some of the local industry folk in Albuquerque.

Brianna's Story...

A good friend of mine, who has had some setbacks financially, has recently been going through an even tougher time with the health of her youngest daughter Brianna. Unfortunately, Brianna has been extremely sick, and is currently undergoing a series of tests to determine what is wrong with her. For reasons not easily understood, the state of New Mexico has not found it necessary to approve Brianna for state funded medical care, thus medical bills are rapidly piling up for her and her family.

Mid-November Update...

A couple of days after I got word that I booked BREAKING BAD earlier this month, my agent called to tell me that the scene had been cut. Drats! It's happened to me before, so I understand. Cool thing is, they had me come in again a couple of days ago for a much larger role, and I feel like it went really well! Still waiting to hear back, so we'll see...:)...

I'm really excited to be working with the VO Agents out of Portland again. I had to take a little time off over the summer to get some new equipment, move, and shoot QUEEN VICTORIA'S WEDDING. Now I'm getting back to it!

Speaking of QUEEN VICTORIA'S WEDDING, we're in the midst of post-production and planning the big screening, which has been pushed back to late January 2010. If you haven't visited our FaceBook FanPage, please do so. In the meantime, check out the new poster for the film.

OH BOY, a lot has transpired…

…since the last time I blogged!

Mostly notably, QUEEN VICTORIA'S WEDDING is a wrap! Yippee! :) I am so very thankful for everyone who worked so hard on this film, and for all of the support we received. We were truly blessed from start to finish. The three day shoot in September went excellently, and we’ve posted some stills and behind the scenes pictures on the FB FanPage: www.facebook.com/pages/Queen-Victorias-Wedding/95907570969?ref=ts. During this next phase, while the footage is in post production, we’re busy setting up our first screening which will take place sometime in early December. Wish us luck! :) I’m so excited to see the finished product.

The other, more notable, update is that I have officially relocated back to NEW MEXICO. Yep, after over 12 years in Los Angeles, this past weekend I packed up and made the long journey back “home”. I’ve managed to get behind on so many things during the packing/driving/unloading process, but so far so good! :) This coming weekend, I intend to take the first of many flights back to Los Angeles for work.

The girls are adjusting fine so far, which I’m very happy about. I’d have to say, they were my biggest concern with the move.

In other news, lately I’ve been busy doing web work, school work and reading scripts. The plan is to keep acting, but to also branch out into all areas of entertainment with MME. I’ve been slowly getting myself involved with producing more Film projects back in Los Angeles, and hope to do the same with TV and Theater very soon. I’m also in talks to manage a Music Group right here in Albuquerque. With that being said, there are a lot of exciting things going on right now, which is why it takes a while for me to sit down and blog sometimes. :) So, we’ll see how everything pans out. Right now, I feel like the possibilities are endless, but it really is up to what the big guy upstairs has in store for me and my family.

On Route 66 headed West...

I just finished up my 4th week in New Mexico. The family and I will be headed back to Los Angeles tomorrow morning. I feel like I was productive while I was here. Yesterday I spoke to the Drama Group at my old High School, which was a lot of fun. I’m very fortunate, because while I was in town this time around, I was able to spend A LOT of time with family and friends, and enjoy a little R&R, which is always nice. :)...

On the acting front, I was disappointed because I didn’t have a single audition, BUT I did take a trip out to Santa Fe to meet with my agent, and the meeting proved to be productive.

As for the girls, it’s funny because even though I ALWAYS “book us out” when we leave Los Angeles, they always get several calls about auditions while we're gone. Of course I was bummed out, but they didn't mind at all! They were having to much fun playing with the animals on my dad's farm. :)...

Good, Clean Summer Fun...:)...

QUEEN VICTORIA'S WEDDING is going very well! We weren’t able to shoot the entire thing like we wanted last month, but we were able to shoot a couple of scenes on Saturday (6/20), that we intend to use as a promotional clip to obtain more funding. Still on deck to do the event in October, but no longer as a Keynote Speaker, as an MC, and I’m very happy about that! I was kind of nervous about writing the speech. :) Once the organization updates their website, I’ll be sure to post a link so that you guys can get your tickets! This week, I am scheduled to attend a red carpet event and a private birthday party. Hopefully I’ll have the energy for both. I’m also trying to plan an impromptu trip to NM with my sister in a few weeks, so I’ll keep you posted regarding that as well.

I feel as though I've really been neglecting the time I use to spend on my blog! Okay, so, of course, I've been working on QUEEN VICTORIA’S WEDDING for most of my day, EVERY DAY! We are 15 days away from shooting! Yippee!

Today I attached my first actor to a Feature Horror Film! Double Yippee! So far, and although it's a lot of hard work, I'm really loving this producer thing.

We never heard anything from Kenyah's commerical audition the other week, BUT "I" just signed with a new COMMERCIAL AGENT last week, and I couldn't be happier. (Props to my girl Kendra for the referral.) I'm ready to get out there and book something...:)...I mean, after all, I'm still an actor first and foremost.

Still doing online schooling. I have this week off though. Thank the LORD! I have so much other stuff I need to get caught up on. Summer is fast approaching, and very soon I will have both of my little one's home with me. ALL DAY, EVERY DAY! Speaking of my little one's, my baby, Ms. Kenyah, turned 3 yesterday (6/3). Can you believe that? For those of you that have been keeping up with my blog for a while, do you remember when I announced my pregnancy with her? Way back in 2005?!? Time flies huh?...:)...

What else has been going on? Oh yeah, I participated in my first Write Girl event last week. It was so much fun. I had a blast! The kids in the program are such amazing writers. Here is a pic that the photographer (Katy Parks Wilson) took of me. I was crying here. My expression is not too flattering, but I'm happy that I was really able to get into the piece. I did 3 monologues in all, but this one was about a 17 year old girl with a 5 month old baby, who is 3 months pregnant with her second child. She's trying to figure out how to write a letter to tell her mother about the new pregnancy. Very sad and emotional.

I've been passing on a lot of parties/red carpet events lately. I've been opting for SLEEP instead!

Sometimes the EXCITEMENT!...:)...

My life as of today has become everything that is QUEEN VICTORIA’S WEDDING! This short film is the first project that I will have the pleasure of co-producing and co-starring in. I am grateful beyond measure to have this opportunity, and the fact that I get to learn as much as I can about the whole process (in a "hands on" setting) is mind boggling to me. You see, things started several weeks ago, when I had this huge desire come over me to just “do something, do anything.” I could barely wait to get B.J. on the phone the next day to tell her my plan, which really wasn't a plan...:)...Problem was, I had no specifics on what I wanted to do. Short film? Webseries? Storyline? Script? I had nothing. So, B.J. suggested that we work together on a short film that she had already written. I would do a role, and also co-produce. Now, just a few short weeks later, we have a full cast and crew, and have been approved for our locations to shoot. Yesterday we did our first walk through with one of the EP's. Countless professionals (on and off camera) have joined forces with us on this project, and I can’t help but believe we'll have a very positive outcome. *SIGH!* :) So, the plan is to shoot mid June 2009. In between family, school, looking for a day job, and working on QVW, I have done a few other things as well:

I'm still seeking a Commercial Rep and Voice-Over Rep here in Los Angeles. I've talked to a few agents, followed up on some referrals, and even had a wonderful conversation with a “celebrity father” who offered to pass my stuff on to some of his connections.

Happened upon the fact that my LAUP commercials had started running. Remember that night I went to the Tony Rock thing with Kendra? Well, I though I heard the tale end of one of them (the announcer part) as I was getting into my car at 2:00am! Needless to say, I was on the horn bright and early the next morning, following up on few things, if you know what I mean….:)…Turns out I was right. Maybe you’ve heard the spots by now, if not check them out here and here.

I’ve attended several events. Well, the fist week of April, I TRIED to attend an event. You see, I experienced my first HOLLYWOOD SNUB. Hhhmppphh! I was on the list, got all dressed up, and was then denied entry at the Red Carpet. (Apparently the VIP list had been cut down.) Oh well, you live and you learn right? On 4/11 I attended the 1st Annual She Cares Celebrity Basketball Game in Malibu, CA. Kinda far from home, but it was loads of fun. Lots of celebrities on hand. I walked the Red Carpet, and did an interview. (See a few photos. There are more on MySpace and Facebook.) Not sure of where the interview will pop up. On 4/22 I attended Bonnie Gillespie’s Cricket Feet Showcase. Very, very cool. Very, very organized. (Which I love!) For me, it is such a wonderful thing to be around talented folks and watch them perfect their craft. Red Carpet and free food/drinks don’t hurt either!...:)…On 4/24 I attended my friend Victor Orlando’s CD Concert, where he and his band really brought the funk! It was awesome.

In other news, I’m loving television right now. The favorites are still going strong, and I love the new show IN THE MOTHERHOOD. So funny. I used to watch it as a webseries online.

I’m still getting things together for my Keynote Speaking gig in October.

No auditions as of late, but to tell you the truth, I’m perfectly fine with it, too busy to care right now. That's definitely a first for me!...:)...

My schedule has been very busy as of late. No, not with auditions, with the other stuff that comes along with being a struggling actor...:)...Most notably: NETWORKING!

A couple of weeks ago (3/19) I attended another event with Kendra that was hosted by Tony Rock. This time it was at the Blue Velvet Lounge in Los Angeles. It was cool. I got to rub elbows with folks like Rodney Perry and Barry Floyd (The Game), but this was definitely more of a party atmosphere than a networking event. (And, it was on a Thursday night, so you know I was absolutely exhausted the next morning!) Two days later (3/21), Chenese (a new friend that Kendra introduced to me to at Tony's event) and I hit up Tanya Kersey's Birthday Party at the Bungalow Club. I had a great time at this party AND I was able to get my network on. I can't wait to attend the HBFF this year!...:)...

This past Saturday (3/28), Chenese and I attended the Sistas are doin' it for Themselves Film Festival at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. This event was organized by the Black Hollywood Education & Resource Center. I can't even begin to tell you how motivated I am after attending this event! The films were wonderful. The filmmakers were wonderful. The event was wonderful. I even ran into Michelle Coons (the writer/director of LET'S TALK) there. (Remember my audition mishap with that film?!?) From what I understand Gina Prince-Bythewood was in the audience too. Anywho, the funny thing is, I'd just had the thought (a couple of weeks ago) that I'd like to do a webisode and/or short film for myself, so this event really helped solidify my desire to move forward with creating my own project(s). We'll see how things develop.

Last, but certainly not least, I was recently approached by a non profit group here in Los Angeles to be the Keynote Speaker at an event they are having this fall. I'm really amped about it. I'm a little nervous because this will be my first time as a public speaker, but I love the challenge of doing new things, so it should be a lot of fun. I will keep you posted regarding the details of the event as the date approaches. I'd love for you guys to come out and support me!

Okay, so I've been working through a lot of "gunk" lately, but the most important issue at hand has been the health of my "lil mama's." Thank the Lord, they are much better now! Everyone is back in school, and feeling great. I'm so thankful to those of you who kept us in your thoughts and prayers, I was getting scared there for a while.

So, now that the kids have gone back to their daily routines, I have a few minutes to sit down and blog...:)...As I'm sure you saw, Taya-Morgan had an audition for STATE FARM at the end of last week. Please don't ask me how it went though, because I have NO IDEA! Apparently, as the kids get older, the CD's take them in the room without us "stage mothers"...:)...so we only know what our children "tell us" about how things went. Drats! She hasn't gotten a callback yet, so I'm going to assume her "shy side" must have kicked in. It's all good though. On to the next!...:)...

At the last minute, I had to cancel a marketing lunch date I had scheduled for today, BUT I was able to hit the gym this morning (yes, I'm still going regularly!) AND I might be headed out to an event this evening. I'm trying to keep plugging away at things! We'll see though, because "in the real world" I have tons of homework to do (gotta keep rocking my 4.0 gpa!), and I also have a "real job" interview tomorrow morning....:)...

Oh yeah, we're still coordinating schedules regarding the reality show I mentioned earlier this month. More details to follow.

Okay, so last but not least, a longtime friend of mine is starting a new acting workshop, that I really wish I could take!...:)...I told him that although I wouldn't be able to take the class, I'd definitely post the information up for you guys to check out. MESSAGE FROM ROBIN G BROWN:

Beginning Thursday March 19, and over the next ten weeks, I will be doing an eight week workshop at the Niche in downtown Los Angeles. The dates are, March 19, 26, April 2, (skip the 9th) 16, 23, 30, May 7 and then 21.

It is a nice little theater/art gallery at 453 South Spring Street, near the subway, so easy to get to from Hollywood and the valley.

I intend to get back to the arcing scenes work we were doing in Hollywood. That is, focusing on playing something. What do I want from the other character before the scene ends?

I have seen a lot of acting without intention (not playing anything) in the last few months. Please review Scene Breakdown on my website http://www.robingbrown.com/.

When you structure your intention so that you need something before the scene ends, you naturally arc the scene when we see if you get it, or not. That way you are always forced into listening. Remember you can’t know who wins until the scene ends.

ROBIN G BROWN BIO

Robin G Brown has a masters degree in acting from the University of Southern California under W. Duncan Ross, and before that was a student at the Second City Training Center, and later the Improv Olympic in Chicago, where he performed in “The Harold” under the direction of Del Close.

While at USC he began study at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting with Joanne Linville. After graduating from USC he work-shopped with Stella Adler in her master class and later taught Improvisation for the Theater at the conservatory.

He then spent time with Viola Spolin in Los Angeles working on her exercises for the actor and founded his own theater school focusing on using Viola Spolin’s work in its intended purpose-- teaching acting principles. An extension of the school, Theatre Extempore, has had extended runs in Los Angeles and Chicago.

During that time Robin was a fixture on Theatre Row in Hollywood running for over a year and a half as the original Vincent in Jack Heifner’s premiere performance of “Heartbreak” in addition to productions of Vaclav Havel’s plays, and many locally written plays and one acts.

Robin is currently doing what he always wanted, helping actors get work. His Scene Breakdown course at AFTRA has become one of the most popular workshops the union provides. He is also an instructor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and list of private clients now numbers in the eighties.

He is an accomplished filmmaker/screenwriter whose independent film “Submission” was recently completed and had it’s premier at the market at The Cannes Film festival May 2006.

A second feature “The Death Stone” begins shooting in New Orleans in January.

...attending the L.A. Comedy Shorts '09 Film Festival Closing Night Awards Ceremony last night, and writing the final paper for my Strategies class. Well, of course I opted for the latter, I gotta keep rocking my 4.0!...:)...

Hopefully I can go to the festival next year. It seems as if it was a huge success.

...do you think you could have had an audition like this at just 11 years old? I can say with all honesty that I could not have!...:)...

By the way, in case you didn't know, Keisha Castle-Hughes had never acted before this, AND she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in this movie [Whale Rider].

So, speaking of the Oscars, the Runway Magazine Oscar Gifting Suites was the only thing I was able to do the other weekend. We got there too late on Friday (2/20) night, so we returned on Saturday (2/21) afternoon. I was really amazed at how much there is to learn about the "machine" that is Gifting Suites. The upside is that you can meet plenty of cool people, make great connections, take lots of photos, do some interviews, and hopefully get free "gifts". The down side is that if you're not recognizable, and you don't have someone on hand to introduce you to folks (i.e. your publicist), you really have to work your butt off to get any results.

That being said, I didn't get much by way of "gifts," but I think part of the reason behind that was because some people who did get stuff were being kind of, ahhh what's the word: GREEDY!...:)...(I over heard more than a few people talking about how they'd stocked up the day before.) Anywho, the one thing I did bring home was this really cool reusable dry cleaning garment bag called The Globo Bag. ...aren't they beautiful? Every time I'm out and about they catch my eye in the skyline. It's been years since I've been skiing. I really wish I could have gone this season. Maybe next year. On a healthy note, this is week four of me hitting the gym 3 to 5 days a week. But get this, I've gained a few pounds! My husband says I'm building muscle. I sure hope he's right!...:)...

Last time you heard from me, I was gearing up for a very busy weekend. In case you were wondering, I was able to make all of the parties/events...:)...On Friday (2/6), I attended a small shindig in celebration of Pasadena. It had been quite a while. The next night (2/7), I attended Donna Wisdom's (event planner to the stars!...:)...) 40th Birthday Bash. (See photos.) Donna's event was really nice. It was held at a quaint little spot called Studio Eleven in L.A. She had a couple of masseuse's on hand, and I was VERY tempted to get a massage, but feared I'd get too sleepy!....:)...Later that night Kendra and I headed over to Neyo's Pre Grammy Midnight Brunch, which was being held at The K ress in Hollywood. After an hour and a half of looking for parking, we were promptly turned away by LAPD and LAFD, (because of overcrowding) once we reached the door! Aggghhh! They had shut down the red carpet and weren't letting anyone else in. From what I heard, they even turned Kathy Griffin away. Neyo himself was sitting out front in his pimped out car (of course...:)...), surrounded by paparrazzi and people with camera phones, graciously apologizing for the whole situation.

On Sunday (2/8) night, I headed over to Cabana Club in Hollywood for a Grammy Awards afterparty hosted by Wesley Jonathan. It was okay. I hate going by myself to events, especially when they are at nightclubs. I didn't get to meet Wesley Jonathan, (actually I didn't even see him) but I did get to walk the carpet. I also met a kid named Frankee Razor from this season of American Idol. That was an early night for sure.

This past weekend, I was invited to a couple of Valentine's Day Events, one was a Runway Magazine Fashion Show Event (back at the Cabana Club), and the other was a Charity Event with Brody Jenner over at The Highlands Hollywood. I just couldn't make them. I was too exhausted. Besides that, it was my anniversary weekend, so I think I just needed some down time at home with the family...

On deck for this weekend is the Oscars Gifting Suite, a Black Tie Gala, and a Comedy Show. Pics and details to follow. With award season in full swing, I feel like I'm out on the social scene too much these days. I need to be on a set somewhere!...:)...

Love (and parties) is (are) in the Air...

Okay, so nothing much has gone on with auditioning as of late. I'm not worried though, because I know I'm in good hands right now. It's just a matter of time!

Fortunately things seem to be going pretty well with building a bit of interest in me, so I have been keeping busy socially. As the weeks have gone by, I'm beginning to realize that my "social networking...:)..." is taking time away a lot of my family time. To curb that, I try to bring my husband along as often as I can. I also try to leave for events after my kids are in bed. I think those things help relieve some of the guilt I'm having about it all. I tell ya, I really can't imagine how celebrities deal with being away from their families so much. Especially when they have to be away for months at a time filming.

Anywho, this weekend in particular is going to be a busy one for me. I'm "supposed" to be stopping through at three birthday parties, a pre-Grammy Event, and a post Grammy Event. Believe it or not, there are three other parties/events that I got invites for, that I'm not going to be able to make! We'll see what goes down though, because I have a ton of homework to get done this weekend as well. Yes, I'm still in school!...:)...You know me, always got a lot going on at once. Before I forget, I'm also proud to say that I've been back in the gym full time! 3 to 5 times a week! Yeah!...:)...

The photos below are a few pics I've taken lately. The first was taken before I left for a Day of Reckoning/Afflicition Fight Viewing Party at Libertine in Hollywood on Saturday, 1/24. I was supposed to be on the red carpet for this event, but they were so unorganized it was crazy! Two days later on Monday, 1/26, my friend Tyreese Burnett had a screening of his short film "JESUS' SECRETARY" at the Bungalow Club in Hollywood. I was beyond tired, but I ended up having a good time. I ran into several friends there, and even SAW a couple of celebrities: Tyson Beckford and Vanessa Bell Calloway. I didn't have enough energy to ask them to take photos with me though. Maybe next time. The last pics are from when I went to my friend Victor Orlando's FUN-JA-LA Christmas Concert back in December.

TV Audition - LIE TO ME - 1/23/09

Today I'm celebrating my first audition of the year! Yeah! It was last minute, but things went very well. I also met with a potential commercial agent today. The agency is a bit on the newer side, but you guys know that things like that don't bother me. As long as I get auditions, I'm a happy camper!...:)...I'll keep you posted on whether or not we make it official.

What else have I been up to lately? Stole time to read a book, and sat down long enough to watch a few flicks. Enjoyed THE LONGSHOTS and SEVEN POUNDS, really enjoyed NOT EASILY BROKEN. I went to a screening of NOT EASILY BROKEN. I was hoping to enjoy a Q&A with Mr. Bill Duke after the movie, but at the last minute, he was unable to make it. I was pleasently surprised by how good this movie was, considering I really didn't know much about it. Actually, I wish I could've auditioned for it, but I won't go there!

Anywho, a couple of I SAW's:

I saw Kevin McKidd in traffic the other day, and I'll just say, if/when they ever call me back to GREY'S ANATOMY, I hope my scene is with him!...:)...
As I was leaving my audition on the FOX lot today I saw Judy Greer. She seems like a really cool person. I've come across my share of celebrities, and it's a very rare occurence that they will look you in the eye and offer up a warm smile.

I think that's it for industry news right now. I'm still plugging away in other areas of my life, so most of the time I feel like a walking, talking zombie...:)...but I know all of my hard work will pay off soon. Right?!? Right? Right!

Not only does it mark my return to the gym, but the "shake up" also occurred today. Things went very smoothly, and I am so relieved that it's over!...:)...I already had someone lined up to go to bat for me, so hopefully the auditions will start pouring in. All I can do is wait and see!

...I guess it's time to pull out those New Year's resolutions right? NOT!...:)...

I have decided to do something different this year, and NOT come up with any New Year's resolutions for myself. My ultimate goal is to stay as open minded and positive as possible in 2009, and just enjoy what life brings my way.

Professionally, things with the animated short I did last year: Detective Downs 2, seem to be coming along quite nicely. The creator (Anthony Thurman) has just released an image of my character Robin. In addition, last month, he did an interview with Flicker Pictures in which I was mentioned!

In other news, this might not be the best time, but I think it's time for yet another shake up. So, please keep me in your prayers!

This last week...

...has been filled with parties of the season, and a few sleepless nights!...:)...In addition to several family functions, last Tuesday night (12/16), Tony Rock hosted "Christmas in Hollywood: A Toy Drive Event," which I attended with Kendra, Todd, and my brother in law. We had a great time, while also being able to give toys to children who are less fortunate. I took photos with Tony and the comedian Earthquake. I also ran into Faizon Love, (who I did THE LUAU with back in the day) but he left before I could get a photo with him. There are more photos from this event on my MySpace page if you're interested.

The next night (12/17), on very little sleep, Kendra and I got gussied up for ADMP and LA Fashion Corner's "Caring for Style" Fashion Show/Charity Event, which benefited Sheila E's Elevate Hope Foundation. The event was really nice, and I was hyped to be walking the red carpet again. It was packed with tons of photographers and interviewers, so it took us about 30 minutes from start to finish! (I've posted a few of the photos I found.) I also did about 5 interviews, so if I come across any of those, I will be sure to post them here as well. On Saturday (12/20) my friend Victor Orlando, and his group FUN-JA-LA, hosted a Christmas Concert at the Salt Creek Grille down in El Segundo. Me and the family stopped by for a little saucy music and hot eats!...:)...

I'm surely pleased that these publicity efforts are working in my favor. It works out even better when Kendra and I are invited to the same events. That way we can keep each other company, and spot check if needed!...:)...Right now I'm scheduled to attend another event in early February. So, if no bookings are on my horizon, hopefully there'll be more events such as these in the coming months.

I'm still anxiously waiting to see what's going to happen with this SAG strike and all. I was able to get my votes in on time for the SAG Awards last week, and it looks like they've already announced the nominees. Hmmm, I wonder how I can get an invite to the SAG Awards? I'll have to look into that.

I completely forgot to mention that Kenyah had a callback for TIDE while I was sitting in an airport waiting area in Phoenix two Thursdays ago!...:)...The call came in just as I was boarding the plane at LAX. Fortunately, I was able to have a family member take her to it. Unfortunately, I don't think she did as well as she would have had I of been with her. She didn't end up booking the job, but that's okay, Kenyah's my little callback queen. I'm sure she'll book the next one!

I want to give a quick shot out to my family and friends, it was great seeing you guys. Also a quick shot out to my on screen husband: Peter Macon. What a wonderful actor. Looking forward to working together again soon!...:)...FRIENDSHIP! is slated to be released in Germany in November 2009 for the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. My hope is that after that it will see a worldwide release. The movie is hilarious!

Commercial Audition - TIDE - 12/2/08 (Kenyah)

Heading out to New Mexico tomorrow to film Friendship! I'm so very excited, but I'm also a bit stressed because at the last minute I have to make new arrangements for my kiddos. Long story short, my departure time was pushed up, so I have to leave for Albuquerque earlier than I expected to. In addition, callbacks for Kenyah's TIDE audition are tomorrow, so if she were to get one, I have no idea who would take her to it! Other than that, I'm cool...:)...I'm happy for all of these "exciting stresses" I suppose, I think it just amazes me how everything has to happen all at once, or not at all!...:)...Please pray that I get everything worked out tonight!

One other thing before I sign off. I want to pay tribute to a wonderful man. I met Elwood Carlisle at a networking breakfast years and years ago, and I would make sure to talk to him every time I went back...:). Elwood was one of those people that had an unbelievable ZEST for life, and I can honestly say that I've never met anyone else like him. He was well into his 70's before he even started an acting career, but just look at what he was able to accomplish in such a short amount of time!

When we met, he gave me his card, and to this day, I still have it. Sometimes I'll look at it and think: "If Elwood had the motivation and drive to do this, then so can I!...:)..." Well, needless to say, I was very sadden to learn last week that Elwood recently passed away.

I just want to take this time to extend my sincerest condolences to his family. I will never forget Elwood, and I will continue to use his legacy as an inspiration for my own! Rest in peace Elwood! You will be missed.

Feature Film Audition – FRIENDSHIP– 11/25/08

This happened so quickly that I didn't even have time to blog about the audition before the booking came in! I was called back to audition for another role in this film, and I got it!...:)...I'm sooooo happy right now! I feel like this has really been a long time coming. I'm supposed to fly out at the end of next week to film it in New Mexico. I'll be sure to blog all about it.

In other news, I recently got a hot tip about a film that's shooting at the start of next year. So, I passed on the information to my reps, but I'm not really sure that they were as excited about it as I was. All I can say is, I really hope they submitted my stuff for it, and something becomes of it. We'll see.

P.S. I aced my final the other day!...:)...

Since I still haven't paid my SAG dues, I'm still missing out on the really great Screenings and Celebrity Q&A's that go on during this time of year...:(...For example, right now I could have been blogging about having seen: AUSTRALIA, THE DARK KNIGHT (again), THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, MILK, and ELEGY just to name a few, but alas, I can not.

And yes, from what I understand Brad was at the BENJAMIN BUTTON screening!

To make up for it, I suppose, I have been getting free DVD's through the mail because of my Nominating Committee status, which is really nice.

Anywho, in other news:

In my quest to work the publicity angle, I have been scheduled to attend two local gala events as a VIP guest next month. I'll be sure to post updates and pictures for you all after the fact!
Last Friday, (11/14) I did "Career Day" at my daughter's school, and although many of the kids were actors themselves, they completely thought I was a rock star, which was very cool!
Oh yeah, did I tell you guys I saw Blair Underwood up close and in person at the play I went to the other week? Actually there were lots of recognizable faces/names there, but man, I really wish that I could have caught up with him for a photo! Maybe next time...:)...
Lot of stuff "pending" in the "industry world" for me right now. Hopefully some of this stuff will hurry up and happen!
Last but not least. I have a final tomorrow in "real world" school, and I'm hoping to ace it. I have an A in the class (yes, your girl is kinda smart!...;)...), so I'm not too worried about it, but I can always use a prayer or two on my behalf. So please keep praying for me!

Might as Well Go 'Head and Party...

I personally think that one of the things that can make or break an up and coming actor is the amount of time spent socializing and networking with one's peers. So, every once in a while, I'll make a concerted effort to get out there and mingle a little.

This past Sunday (11/16), Kendra and I attended the 4th Annual Gbaby "Wearable Art" Fashion Show. (Gbaby is owned and operated by Giovonnie Samuels and her mother Sylvia.) The show was outdoors, so we were affected a little by the ash and soot from the fires, but overall we had a lot of fun. The seats were great, (thanks to Kendra's friend CD Twinkie Byrd and some of the girls from the HerShe Group) the fashions were amazing, and the music was bumping. As expected after the show, it was a mad house as people rushed to make purchases, so I didn't get to buy anything, but I'm most certain we'll be going back very soon. Okay, so remember that animated short I booked back in September? Well, the trailer was released yesterday (11/18), and I think it's pretty HOT! Although my part isn't in the trailer, you can see my name in the credits, which is very cool. Check it out here.

Feature Film Audition – FRIENDSHIP– 11/10/08

Hey guys, thanks for continuing to check in with me!

Okay, so the last week has been crazy busy. First off, to catch you up on my auditions, the feature film audition above was through my New Mexico agent. Man, I'm really hoping to book this job so that I can work! I'm sending out **positive vibes** right now! I found out late last week that MY NAME IS EARL went on without me...:(...I'm going to guess it was because I was too young for the role, because I know I knocked that audition out of the park. And how often do you hear me say that?...:)...Hopefully they'll bring me in for something else in the near future. In other news, I was chatting with my writer/producer friend B.J. this morning, and it looks like she's getting several of her projects picked up. I'm so excited for her, because she really deserves this. I'm also excited about the possibility of working on one of her projects. So, We'll see what happens.

Rewind to last Friday night (11/7), Todd and I went to a screening of my friend George Loving Jackson's movie, called THEY LOVE ME. George wrote, produced, and starred in this project, and I really have to give him his kudos! I think that he did a great job, considering it was his first time out. I'm always happy to support my friends/peers who have the courage to create their own stuff. Hopefully one day I'll have some of that courage!...:)...

After church on Sunday afternoon (11/9), Kendra invited me to tag along with her and her cousin, Keith David, to the closing performance of Ebony Reper tory The atre's staged play TWO TRAINS RUNNING. Believe me when I say that this play was amazing, and so very inspiring! After the show, I was talking to a few of the actors about how hard 2008 had been on the industry, and how much they'd just inspired me to keep forging ahead. In which Earl Billings looked at me and said: "You can't quit acting! God has put this on your heart, you can't give it up!" Very cool right?!? So, with Mr. Billings' words of wisdom, I am determined to keep moving forward...:)...Here are but a few of the photos I took that afternoon. Lastly, last night (11/11), I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a live concert performance with International Recording Artist Jesse Campbell at the Aqua Lounge in Beverly Hills. I was a VIP guest, which was very cool, and Jesse's performance was amazing. I had a blast! I told him, as we posed together for pictures together, that I'd been a fan of his music for quite some time, and I that I think he has "voice like silk," which he does...:)...I'm definitely looking forward to supporting his comeback, and I think you should too. Commercial Audition - DSW CAMPAIGN - 10/30/08

Of course I'd get a commercial audition today, after my rant yesterday right?...:)...This commercial is actually something I submitted myself on through LA Casting, and the audition came through my reps. I also had a "real world" interview this morning and it went VERY, VERY well. Although it might mean the hiatus I keep talking about will come true, I'm more than excited about the possibilities of having a steady paycheck again!

No word on any of the auditions as of yet. Actually, I think the two in New Mexico have been cast already, and unfortunately, I had to skip the UNTITLED Student Film audition. Hopefully I'm still in the running for the other Student Film project and the Voice Over. Only time will tell.

In other news, until I can get new photography (again!) I'm re-adding one of my old pics to the mix to see if some auditions might come my way. Frankly, I'll be honest, I'm beyond baffled as to why I have not had a single TV/Film/Commercial audition in over 3 months here in Los Angeles. I'll just say this, I'm getting older and with that comes impatience. I mean I'm finally to a point in my career where I think I have what it takes to make it, but I'm just not very good at surrounding myself with people who believe in my talent as much as I do. As a result, I end up with a lot of time wasted and opportunities lost, and I just don't know what to do about it. It seems like it's an endless cycle that I can not break free of!

Anyway, yesterday morning, I was down in the dumps again. (What else is new right?!?) Thinking to myself, "AAGH! You know what? Forget all this acting crap! I'm so sick and tired of working myself to the bone, and feeling like every time I take two steps forward, days later I'm taking ten steps back! I'm spending money I don't have. Submitting myself left and right on one liners, student films, and even extra work, and nothing is happening! I give up!" But then, (and here comes the silver lining) I really have to thank God because whenever I'm feeling like that, he does something to show me it's not time to give up just yet. So, last night (10/28) when I attended a SAG Foundation Workshop with Ms. Rosemary Welden, it turned out to be the best workshop "performance" I've had to date, and I walked out of there feeling really good again.

I just have to constantly remind myself that there will be days when I'm down in the dumps and feeling low, but deep down inside I have to hold strong and believe that something great is just around the corner, and that there is a reason why I'm supposed to keep doing this. I just hope, wish, and pray that it will get here SOON! VERY SOON!...:)...Cuz a sista is worn out!

Anywho, before I go, I gotta do a quick plug for my friend Joe Peracchio. He's currently starring in the show EASY MONEY (which airs on the CW) alongside Laurie Metcalf. You can check it out on Sunday nights at 9pm. And yes, in case your wondering, it shoots in New Mexico, or "Little Hollywood" as I like to call it. Speaking of "Little Hollywood" you would not believe how many Los Angeles actors have been picking my brain about New Mexico lately. So, if you're soon to be one of them, you can find more info about the New Mexico industry here!...:)...In all honesty, as an actor, New Mexico is not a bad place to be right now, and if my husband wasn't so dead set on staying here in Los Angeles, I can honestly say that I would have gone back there years ago! This was to be my "think it over" week. I’d had several discussions with industry friends over the last few days, and I was really considering taking this hiatus thing on for size. So now, I’m thinking that somewhere along the way, I must have kicked up some positive energy dust. Of course that would happen right?!?...:)...No complaints here! For the TV Auditions I have to put myself on tape for them, because they're both shot in New Mexico, and as you can see by the student films, I've recently starting submitting myself again, and doing a few drop offs.

Speaking of putting myself on tape. On Tuesday (10/14) night I attended a SAG Foundation Workshop with Ms. Bonnie Gillespie, and it turned out to be perfect timing! One of the things she discussed in depth was the idea of putting yourself on tape for an audition, how it's becoming more and more popular in Hollywood, and some specifics on how to go about doing it. Bonnie is a really cool lady. She's actually been my "cyber buddy" for sometime now. It's always nice to see people who are so willing to share what they know with the rest of us! So today, not only am I working on the IN PLAIN SIGHT audition, but I'm also off to pencil in some more "think it over" weeks in my schedule. Please wish me many broken legs!

...with this economy and all, I found out recently that I will become an aunt again next year, not one, but two more times! These babies will make numbers 18 and 19. I know, I know, my family is really busy right?!?...:)...All jokes aside, I absolutely love babies/kids, so I'm looking forward to meeting my new little buddies.

Speaking of little buddies, both of mine had auditions this past Friday (10/3) afternoon:

Game Show Promo Audition - WHAT'S MY LINE - 10/3/08 (Taya-Morgan)

It took me roughly 6 hours to cart Taya-Morgan out to Burbank (where she wouldn't speak a mumbling word once in the audition room) and then fight traffic to Santa Monica to Kenyah's audition (where she hammed it up as per usual). It's funny how different the two of them are! Needless to say my friends screening, that I was scheduled to attend that night DID NOT happen. I was way too exhausted!

Yesterday (10/4), I cut my conventional learning short, and drove to Hollywood to attend a CD Workshop with Phaedra Harris. Remember back in August when I went to that SAG Screening to support a friend? Well, she came and sat next to me during the Q&A, and I ended up giving her one of my cards. So, when I saw her name come through the CD Workshop circuit, I signed up for the class. It was really, really informative, and she gave my partner and I some great pointers during our scene. After class, she mentioned that she had intended to call me in to read for her after I'd given her my card, but the part ended up going to someone else before she could do so. Goes to show that you really have to take advantage of every opportunity when you're in the right place at the right time! Hopefully I'll get to read for her soon!...:)...

Lastly, and certainly not least, I ventured out into Hollywood nightlife last Wednesday (10/1), to attend the Wrap Party for a webseries that I'm a new fan of. It's called LIFE, LOVE, AND HOLLYWOOD. I really think it's a great concept, that has been wonderfully executed. Not only can I relate to a huge chunk of their story lines, but I really love to see people put a vision in motion. It's very inspiring for me. I met some new friends that night, and also ran into a fellow blogger friend who I'd never met in person! (It was very nice to "meet" you in real life Angel Oquendo, and congrats again on your most recent booking!) Be sure to check out the First Season of LLH when you have a chance, and let them know what you think. Hey, maybe they'll ask me to join them for an episode or two next season, you never know!...:)...

Whew, THANK YOU Jesus! Now, don't get me wrong, I love theater, and I loved doing TRACKS, and I loved the cast and crew, but the huge commitment it turned out to be, definitely took it's toll on my mind, body, and spirit. I think, if I was doing theater/acting full time and not had 100 other things going on in my life, I'm sure I would have been fine, but I really, really had to push myself to the limits to make it through. That being said, I wouldn't change it for the world, because I did GAIN some great experiences/memories, made some great friends, took some great photos, and even learned some great life lessons over the last several weeks. But I have to tell you, what surprised me the most, is how much support I got from my friends and family. I honestly had no idea how many people love and support me! Every single show, there were at least 2 or 3 people (even up to 7 or 8 on some nights) in the audience that had come out to show their support, and that was such a great feeling. (Side Note: Todd is now convinced that I should do a one woman show armed with this new information, but I digress...:)...and I'm actually a little intimated at the thought of it!)

It's always nice to have the support of your peers. In the audience this past weekend T'Keyah Crystal Kemáh, Kendra Johnson, Tyreese Burnett, and Geri Allen came out to support. Thanks guys!

In other news, I was invited over the weekend to attend a comedy event downtown that featured comedian/actor Mark Curry. I couldn't attend because of the show. Maybe next time.

Lastly, (and I'm sure it's because I just shared the trials and tribulations of my career with you all the last time I wrote) not only did I receive some surprising residual love over the weekend, but I also came across the following article (click here and here) in PARADE magazine. A higher power speaking to me? Could be. As a result, while I'm hashing out what I want to do, I'm going to attend a few parties, screenings, workshops, and quite possibly take a brief solo trip to NM, in hopes of landing a role or two...:)...and then, I'll decide.

I had an epiphany today. I'm seriously thinking about taking a break from the industry for a little while. My pursuit of an acting career feels like it's become a "habit" to me. (Hopefully you understand what I mean.) In a nutshell, I can go from "absolute euphoria" when I book something and things are going well, all the way down to "rock bottom" when I'm not going out and things aren't going well. I'm pretty sure all actors go through this, so I'm not saying "Oh, feel sorry for poor Shenita!" I'm just saying that I have SO MANY other wonderfully important things going on in my life, that I just don't want to be jeopardized by this roller coaster ride that I'm on. That being said, I've got some heavy thinking to do!
OMG! Was HEROES not the bomb last night?!? I love that show. A few more of my favorites return this week. Can't wait!

This weekend was awesome! After weeks of rehearsal, the show (TRACKS) finally went up on Friday night (9/12). We had a sold out house, and Ms. Kim Wayans was in the audience...:)...Thanks again Kim and Sheryl for supporting Tann and I! Although I don't think my performance was at it's best on opening night, the idea of being in front of a live audience again was a big thrill for me. Saturday's show gelled much more than the night before, and that night I had some of my family, and church family, in the audience which was really cool. Many thanks to you ladies for the support as well!

TRACKS runs for two more weekends, so, get your tickets now!

What else is going on? Hmmm, I had my first "real world" class in over 10 years on Saturday (9/13) morning. I swear I felt so old sitting in there with all of those teenagers and twenty somethings. I guess as long as I don't let that get to me, I should be fine, right? Right.

Since I last blogged, I've been busting my behind trying to make sure that all of my reps have what they need from me to get me out there more. Still crickets, but I'm hopeful!

I'm thinking quite possibly, once I'm done with the show, that I'll get into an acting class somewhere, with somebody. Speaking of acting classes, a friend of my Robin Brown, is teaching a FREE acting class through AFTRA next month. So all of you paid up AFTRA members, check out the details here. When you contact Robin, make sure that you let him know that I sent you. Also, another acquaintance of mine, Ms. Adilah Barnes, sent me info on an acting class that she's teaching that starts at the end of the month. Check out the details for her class here, and be sure to tell her that I sent you as well.

Before I go, on a serious note, I want to lift up many prayers for the victims and families of the MetroLink accident that happened last Friday afternoon. I was on the freeway headed to the theater when a cavalcade of emergency vehicles sped by me. When I continued to hear their sirens well after I'd gotten to the theater, I knew that something was really, really wrong. I didn't find out the complete details of what had happened until after the show that night, and was devastated to hear the news. Again, my prayers are extended for them all.
